About Suuzando Hashimoto
“SUUZANDO HASHIMOTO” opened in 1953 as a specialty store for calligraphy supplies in Kyoto. The founder, Isoji Hashimoto, was fond of the world of calligraphy and stationery, which seeks refinement and elegance. As his hobby grew, he decided to open a new store.
Mount Suuzan is a snow-capped mountain in Henan Province, China, and is mentioned in both Japanese and Chinese poetry anthologies. Inspired by this majestic mountain and its reminiscence to Mount Fuji, Yoshinori Yoshizawa, poet and Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University, named the store “TENGA BUNBOU (Elegant Literature Store) SUUZANDO HASHIMOTO"
We carefully select Japanese paper from production areas such as Awa, Iyo, Echizen, and Kurotani for paper that is soft to the touch and pleasant to write on.
Embracing the theme of the changing seasons, we manufacture and sell Japanese stationery and miscellaneous goods with original designs that emphasize handwritten characters, hand-drawn designs, the warmth of Japanese paper, and the warmth of human hands
The aesthetics of our craftsmanship - elegance. Proper, tidy, refined craftsmanship.
